Philip J. Wijers

Director Government Affairs - Sensys Gatso Group (2010-2026)
Chair Road Safety Committee - International Road Federation (2022-2026)

Philip Wijers is an expert in traffic enforcement and road safety. He holds a cum laude master's degree in economic geography, specializing in transport economics, from the University of Amsterdam. His career spans the public and private sectors, including business development and strategy roles in the airline industry, as well as positions at the Netherlands Ministry of Economic Affairs and Dutch embassies in the Far East.

From 2010 to 2026, Philip served as Director of Government Affairs at Sensys Gatso Group (SGG), a Swedish-Dutch leader in road safety enforcement systems and services. In this role, he provided consultancy on automated enforcement framework adjustments and collaborated closely with governments, multilateral organizations, NGOs, and other road safety stakeholders to enhance road safety, reduce traffic speeds, noise pollution, and emissions, and optimize traffic flows.

As Chair of the International Road Federation's Road Safety Committee from 2022 to 2026, he headed and initiated a number of multidisciplinary task forces — bringing together governments, academia, and the private sector — to develop practical solutions to pressing global road safety challenges, including task forces on distracted driving, powered two-wheelers, roadsides, and work zones.

He is the author of a wide range of papers on automated traffic enforcement and related PPPs, a regular speaker at international conferences, and a trusted consultant to road safety organizations, national governments, NGOs, and multilateral organizations.
